Recovery of accidentally deleted Active Directory objects and rolling back unauthorized changes to users, groups, and other information in Active Directory is a routine and sometimes impossible to do task. Rolling back accidental deletions of users and OUs requires deep understanding of AD architecture and tombstone, with results still not guaranteed (e.g., can`t recover user group membership, enabled/disabled status, remote access settings, etc). Built-in and 3rd party backup-and-restore utilities in many cases require Directory Services restore mode with domain controller downtime, but without granular object-level restore functionality.
NetWrix Active Directory Object Restore Wizard is a free tool to assist with recovery of accidentally deleted Active Directory users, OUs, groups, and any other objects. The product uses AD tombstone and also it`s own backup storage for additional fine-grained recovery of modified AD attributes and recovery of attributes lost in tombstone (e.g. account options, group memerships, home directory, and many other attributes).
