VShell 4. 2 Server from VanDyke Software Enhances File Operations and Improves Control with New Virtual Root and VShell Monitor Options
Albuquerque, N. M. (December 17, 2015) - VanDyke Software® , a developer of multi-platform secure terminal emulation and file transfer software, today announced the official release of VShell® 4. 2 server. VShell 4. 2 for Windows gives system administrators the ability to access virtual root paths as a different user than the logged in user and introduces new time-saving and security enhancements.
The new " Connect As" feature in VShell 4. 2 for Windows allows administrators to specify credentials that will be used when a virtual root configuration points to a network resource (SMB/CIFS shares, NAS storage devices, etc. ). " Historically, it' s been difficult to successfully configure access to network resources when a file transfer client is using certificate-based (or public-key) authentication, " said Chris McElveny, VanDyke Software' s product director for VShell. " This new feature can vastly simplify access to network resources while still enforcing the security best practice of password-less authentication. "
VShell 4. 2 for Windows also adds an import/export tool that allows the VShell configuration to be backed up and copied from within the VShell Control Panel. A Control Panel management interface facilitates adding, editing, and removing entries from the deny hosts/users files. All versions include a deny host white list and the ability to deny connections based on user name.
Security and encryption enhancements on Windows include support for x509v3-ssh-rsa and x509v3-ssh-dss algorithms (RFC 6187). VShell FTPS for Windows supports client certificate authentication and the ability to configure SSL (TLS) encryption and authentication options on a per listen address basis.
In VShell 4. 2 for Windows, the VShell Monitor can be run in the system tray, start on administrator logon, display connection notifications, and provide easy access to the VShell Control Panel and Help. Color indicators make it easy to distinguish between authenticated and non-authenticated connections.
VShell Secure Shell server replaces Telnet and FTP for secure network administration and end-user access on Windows and UNIX platforms. Precision control over privileges, the ability to fine tune the Secure Shell environment, and a wide selection of strong authentication methods provide a flexible solution that grows with evolving business and security environments. Fully-functional evaluation copies of VShell can be downloaded from the company' s website: www. vandyke. com.
